What a difference a year makes. One season removed from losing a pair of matches against Fort Scott Community College, the No. 2-ranked Cowley College volleyball team made easy work of its match against the Lady Greyhounds Wednesday at home as they won 25-13, 25-9, 25-11.
The Lady Tigers have still yet to drop a set on the season as they improve to 18-0 overall and 6-0 in the Jayhawk Conference Eastern Division.
"We just focus on the process and take it one set at a time," Cowley head coach Steven Gream said. "We do what we need to do to get better every day."
In Wednesday's opening set, Cowley used an 11-1 run to break a 4-4 tie. After winning the first set 25-13, Cowley scored the first six points of set two and used another 10-0 run to win 25-9.
The Lady Tigers would race out to an 8-1 lead in set three and cruised to the 25-11 victory.
"The pressure from our serve created those runs," Gream said.
Fort Scott is now 6-10 overall and 2-3 in the conference.
Iva Halacheva (13 kills) was one of five Lady Tigers to finish with five or more kills.
"Iva set the tone for our other hitters and Macy Shreffler (six kills) provided us with a spark off the bench," Gream said.
Freshman setter Rossana Papa added 31 assists and seven digs.
"Rossana did a fantastic job distributing the ball," Gream said. "She found the holes in their defense and got the ball to the hot hitters."
Cowley will put its unbeaten record on the line when they host the Cowley Invitational on Friday and Saturday. The Lady Tigers will open the tournament by facing Carl Sandburg College Friday at 5 p.m. Cowley will then face Central Community College-Columbus at 11 a.m. Saturday before finishing up against NJCAA Division I Cisco College at 1 p.m.
