Eleven matches in and the No. 4-ranked Cowley College volleyball team has yet to drop a set. The latest victory came Wednesday night when the Lady Tigers throttled Allen County 25-15, 25-17, 25-15 inside W.S. Scott Auditorium.
Cowley, which is 11-0 overall and 3-0 in the Jayhawk Conference Eastern Division, used a 10-1 run in Wednesday's opening set to defeat Allen 25-15. The second set saw the Lady Tigers rally from an early 5-4 deficit to lead 11-6 following a 7-1 run. The Lady Red Devils would close to within 16-12 before Cowley pulled away for the 25-17 win.
Cowley would then score six of the first seven points in set three and cruised to the win of the match.
"Our players did well at following our game plan," Cowley head coach Steven Gream said. "They served aggressively, had a balanced attack, and played with defensive intensity."
Sophomore Iva Halacheva led the Lady Tigers' offensive attack with 13 kills, while freshman Laci Beougher added 10 kills. Middle hitter Gyongyver Araczki chipped in with nine kills and Rachele Tessari had eight kills and 10 digs.
"I really thought the win was a team effort," Gream said. "Rossana Papa (39 assists) did a good job of distributing the ball and getting us more swings."
The loss drops Allen's record to 5-5 overall and 2-1 in the Jayhawk East.
Cowley will have some time off before hosting Kansas City Kansas Community College Wednesday, September 15 at 6:30 p.m. Kansas City is currently 6-5 overall and 1-1 in the conference.
"Starting with the match against Kansas City we will play 11 matches in a week and a half, so we will use this time off to rest some players and add some things to our game," Gream said. "When we come back we want to keep our momentum going."
