Broncbusters rally past Colby in opener

Garden City, KS-One swing of the bat changed everything. 

Reagan Sword's towering three-run homer in the sixth capped a wild finish as Garden City topped Colby, 10-7 in Wednesday's opener at Tangeman Sports Complex. 

Yina Ballesta Vargas notched her 10^th win of the season in the circle, fanning seven over seven innings. She surrendered seven runs on 10 hits and walked three. 

The Broncbusters were cruising along after a five-run first, which included Chiara Olison's 10^th homer of the season. 

But the Trojans, which trailed 6-1 entering the fifth, came roaring back. Paige Pierce blasted a grand slam over the fence in right-center to make it a one-run game. Then in the sixth, Tess Polad tripled home the tying run before Bailey Jackson's RBI base hit gave Colby a 7-6 advantage. 

Garden City though answered in their half of the sixth. Kenzie Garza smacked a leadoff solo shot, and Sword sent the crowd into a frenzy with a two-out, three-run blast to make it 10-7. 

Garza finished 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI for the Broncbusters, which improved to 16-13 overall and 7-7 in conference.
