Colby, KAN - The Colby Community College softball program traveled to Barton for a thrilling game against Barton Community College. The Trojans began with an 8-5 loss and ended the day with a 10-7 loss. Colby falls to 23-18 overall and 4-14 in the KJCCC and will take on Pratt Community College on Monday, April 7th.
Game 1 Recap
The game kicked off with Colby taking an early lead in the first inning, as Paige Pierce singled to center field, driving in Tess Polad for the first run.
Colby didn't back down, answering with a run of their own in the fifth inning when Sofia Valenti singled, driving in Brooklyn Ekker to cut the lead to 4-2. But Barton added to their cushion with two unearned runs later in the inning, and by the sixth, the lead grew to 7-4, following a wild pitch and an RBI single by G. Hembree.

Sofia. Valenti delivered a crucial RBI single in the fifth inning, helping to keep Colby within striking distance.

Colby Community College Battles Falls Short in a Close Game against Barton Community College, 10-7
Colby took an early lead in the second inning when Hailey Buttshaw singled to center field, bringing in Jenna Funk for a 1-0 lead. Barton answered in the third, first tying the game and then taking a 6-1 lead thanks to a four-run inning, which included a grand slam by E. Bartlett. But Colby wasn't ready to back down.
The Trojans came for a fight in the fourth with a groundout from Ekker that brought in two unearned runs, narrowing Barton's lead to 6-3. In the sixth, Colby's offense exploded. Funk doubled to score Bailey Jackson, making it 6-4, and Emmy Supernor followed with an RBI single to pull the Trojans within one run, 6-5. Then, with runners on base, Pierce delivered a clutch two-RBI single, giving Colby a 7-6 lead.
Unfortunately, Barton responded in kind, tying the game at 7-7 on an RBI single by L. Wood before K. Alvord hit a three-run homer to give Barton a 10-7 lead. Colby couldn't recover, and the game ended with Barton winning.
