Butler served Highland their third loss of the season after shutting out the Scottie offense and winning the game 6-2.
It was a defensive battle all day with Butler scoring the only offense points of the day with 5:02 left in the 2
nd quarter on an Isaiah Truss 2-yard run. That touchdown was set up by three Highland penalties giving Butler a first and goal on the HCC two-yard line setting up the touchdown three plays later.
Loren Young blocked the extra-point and Butler took the 6-0 lead.
Highland had two scoring opportunities, one in the third and one in the fourth quarter, inside the Butler red-zone but came up short turning the ball over on downs.
With 3:25 to play in the game, Butler was faced with a 4
th and 12 at their own 5-yard line. BCC punter Gerrit Prince took the snap and purposely ran out of the end-zone resulting in a safety and 2-points for the Scotties.
A bobbled catch on the return and a Highland penalty would start the Highland drive on their own 10-yard line. The Scotties were unable to move the ball and turned it over on downs with 2:16 remaining. Butler went on to run the clock out and escape with a 6-2 win.
Highland totaled up 216 yards of offense and only gave up 108 to Butler.
Tristan Speer went 8-15 for 31 yards and an interception.
Deontae Hull rushed for 107-yards on 16 carries while
Willie Jordan carried the ball 15 times for 74-yards.
Loren Young,
Amadou Fofana,
Jahkeem Green and
Jeremiah Hill led the defense all recording 9-tackles each. Butler entered the game averaging 29.8 PPG and 394.8 YPG and the Scotties held them to 6-points and 108-yards.
The Achilles heel for Highland in the game was their 3
rd down efficiency converting only 2-12 on the day.
The Scotties, now 2-3 on the year, will look to get back to .500 as they host KJCCC opponent Independence Community College at home on Saturday, October 14 at 1:00pm.
