12th ranked Barton women notch pair of second half goals for victory over Dodge City.
The 12th ranked Barton Community College women's soccer team got back to its winning ways Saturday afternoon riding a pair of second half goals earning a 2-0 victory over Dodge City Community College from the Cougar Soccer Complex.
Sweeping the season meetings, the Cougars keep pace atop the KJCCC West at 8-1-0 and move to 12-2-0 on the season while the Conquistadors drop to 1-7-0 in the conference and fall to 2-7-1 overall. Next up will be a Wednesday trip to Arkansas City for a 5:00 p.m. kick at Cowley College.
Despite the Cougars maintaining the possession and holding a 14-2 edge in shots, it would be the Conquistadors packing in the defense holding the nation's second highest scoring team off the scoreboard in the opening forty-five minutes.
Regrouping during the halftime break, Head Coach Ousmane Camara's halftime speech sparked a fire into the Barton attack. Taking just sixty-six seconds into the second half for the Cougars to break through on the scoreboard, Nina Norshie carried in Rin Sato's setup pass for a far post net shaker from the top of the six-yard box.
Just 9:50 later, the nation's leading scorer would strike again as Hinata Kojima's sent in ball set up a picture perfect far post Norshie header from 12-yards out for her second of the game and 36th of the season widening Barton's lead to 2-0.
Nia Baker improved to 8-2-0 on the season defending the pipes for 82-minutes making the lone save for the Cougars while Raianny Lopes guarded the net for the final eighth-minutes as the Barton defense posted its' sixth clean sheet of the season.
Barton held a 22-3 edge in shots and 9-1 advantage on frame outshooting their opponent for the 14th time this season in 14 games.
