INDEPENDENCE, Kan. - The Independence Softball team suffered two more conference losses on Thursday as they fell to Cloud County 12-4 and 13-3.
Game one was anyone's ballgame early as the single run scored by Cloud County was the only notch on the scoreboard for either team. In the bottom of the fourth, Cloud County blew the game open with seven runs to take an 8-0 lead. With the run rule looming, Indy battled back and cut the eight run lead in half with four runs in the top half of the fifth. Maddison Wammock and Madyson Paxton each had RBI extra base hits in that inning. Cloud County was able to retain momentum as they scored four runs of their own in the bottom half, leading to the 12-4 run rule final.
Kynleigh Henson and Kylie Dennison each had multi-hit games in game one, while Dennison and Taylor Nixon each had an RBI.
In game two, after a deadlocked first inning where the two teams each plated a run, Cloud County blew this game open early as they scored eight runs in the second inning pushing the lead to 9-1. Indy would fight back with two runs in the top of the third, highlighted by a Kylie Dennison RBI fielder's choice. Cloud once again had an answer offensively as they plated four runs in the bottom half, eventually winning 13-3.
Madyson Paxton and Alexis Yarnell had the only two hits for Indy in game two, while Dennison led the way driving in two of the three runs.
Indy is off for the weekend due to the Easter holiday, but will hit the road again in a weeks time to take on Fort Scott on April 24th.
