The No. 7-ranked Cowley College men's track and field team and No. 9-ranked Cowley College women's squad combined to break three school records over the weekend while competing at Friends University and Wichita State University.
Competing at WSU, Tiger freshman Amos Pkiach broke the men's school record in the 10,000-meter run with a time of 31:11.19. The previous school record had stood for 15 years.
"This was a solid run by him," Cowley head coach Cameron Rieth said. "He has been bouncing back from a little injury and being sick, so we can't wait to see what he is capable of doing in a few more weeks."
Lady Tiger sophomore Lubna Suied also broke the women's school-record in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 17:53.05. The previous school record in the event had stood for 10 years.
"We knew she was capable of this, but just needed to get in the right race with decent weather," Rieth said. "We are very excited for her."
At Friends, Cowley freshman Diego Andres-Dugan tied the school record in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.57.
"The exciting thing is we know he can continue to improve upon this time," Rieth said.
Cowley had several other athletes hit national qualifying marks over the weekend.
The Cowley track and field teams will compete at Coffeyville Community College on Saturday.
