Highland didn't waste any time finding the end zone on Saturday night as sophomore running back
Marquis Terry took it 64-yards for a touchdown on the first play of the game. HCC attempted a 2-point conversion that was no good and took an early 6-0 lead over the Fort Scott Greyhounds.
Fort Scott answered back with a 15 play, 4-minute drive that ended in a 1-yard Harry Trotter touchdown run. Kick by Brody Southwell was good and Fort Scott took a 7-6 lead with 10:23 left in the first half.
Both defenses locked in the rest of the quarter giving up no points and after 15 minutes of play Fort Scott led Highland 7-6.
Early in the second quarter, Highland safety
Antonio Cole picked off Fort Scott quarterback Nathan Rourke and took it down to the Greyhounds 15-yard line. Two plays later,
Kahlil Render would find
Demarre Kitt in the corner of the endzone for a 14-yard Scottie touchdown. Render connected with Antonio Joiner for the 2-point conversion and Highland took back the lead 14-7 with 10:21 left in the first half.
On the next possession Fort Scott marched the ball down into Highland territory. The Scottie defense forced a 4
th down and Fort Scott missed a 31-yard field goal attempt.

Kahlil Render fumble gave the Greyhounds the ball back on the Highland 17. Another tough stand by the Highland defense would set up a 4
th and 11 from the 19-yard line. Fort Scott took a shot to the end zone and Rourke's pass was broken up by
Antonio Cole. HCC took over on their own 19-yard line halfway through the 2
nd quarter.
A three and out for the Highland offense would give Fort Scott the ball back after a
Trenton York punt. Another three and out by the for the Greyhound offense set up a 4
th and long. A blocked punt by
Tyrik Carmickle would give Highland the ball back at the Greyhound 16-yard line. That set up a 7-yard
Marquis Terry rushing touchdown, his 14
th of the year. The 2-point conversion was no good; Highland led 20-7 with 2:20 left in the first half and would take that lead into the locker room.
Fort Scott would get three more on the board after a 33-yard field goal by Brody Southwell with 4:54 left in the 3
rd quarter.
After stopping the Highland offense on the one-yard line, the Greyhounds marched 99-yards for a touchdown on a 30-yard pass to Ke'Von Love to cut the lead to three with 7:47 left in the game.
Fort Scott regained possession of the football on their own 31-yard line after Highland turned it over on downs with 4:36 left in the game.
The Greyhounds, still trailing 20-17, moved the ball down the field and were set up with a first and 10 on the Highland 22-yard line. The next play, Fort Scott quarterback Nathan Rourke threw a pass down the middle that was tipped in the air by
Tyrik Carmickle and sophomore safety
Antonio Cole came up with the interception; his second of the game. Cole's interception came with 1:35 left in the game and would seal the victory for the Scotties.
Coach Arnold on the final defensive possession, "We were at a point where we needed a stop and Antonio stepped up and got the interception and gave us a chance to win the game."
With a win over Fort Scott on Saturday night, Highland recorded the programs 300
th win.
The Scotties are 6-3 overall and play host to #17 Coffeyville CC on Saturday, November 5
th at 1:00pm.
