
Big third inning dooms Garden City in game two vs. Pratt
Pratt, KS-One bad inning cost Garden City dearly on Wednesday.
Pratt turned a 4-0 deficit into an eight-run cushion thanks to a 12-run third inning, Jaxin Logue hit one of four home runs on the day for the Beavers and drove in four runs, and Pratt run ruled the Broncbusters, 15-7 in five innings.
Karis Stewart's two-run walk-off double in the fifth ended the game.
Garden City, which fell to 20-16 overall and 12-10 in league play, jumped out to a 4-0 advantage, thanks in large part to a pair of RBI doubles by Maysen Kurene-Iwikau in the first and third innings.
But Pratt's half of the third changed the complexion of the game. Brianna Howard's leadoff homer out of the eight-hole set the tone, which was eventually followed by an Ashleigh Boswell two-run-double and Audra Henderson's two-run bomb to left. Logue hit a grand slam later in the inning and Boswell crushed a solo shot to dead center to cap off an inning that saw the Beavers score 12 runs on nine hits. They nearly batted around twice.
Maria Vandano Fori homered for the second straight game for the Broncbusters, bringing her team-leading total to 17. She's currently fourth in the nation in long balls.
Chiara Olison was rocked for 12 runs on 11 hits in just 2 2/3. Ashlyn Powell allowed three runs on five hits in relief.
