Behind some strong individual performances and a defensive showing that forced 30+ turnovers the #2 Highland women secured their 11th win of the season. Scotties topped Southwestern Community College 86-74 to move to 11-0 on the season. The win also marks the 47th straight regular season win for the Highland women dating back to the 2016-17 season.
Southwestern drained a three-pointer to open the game and then owned a 9-8 lead at the 6:50 mark but the Scotties then took the lead and went on a 7-0 spurt to lead 15-9 with just over five minutes left in the quarter. Highland worked to a 19-11 lead in the first quarter but Southwestern ended the first on a 9-2 run to draw within one-point at 21-20.
Highland answered in a big way in the second quarter going on a 17-2 run over the first four minutes of the second quarter to lead 38-22. The Scotties then worked to an 18-point lead in the first half at 42-24 at the 5:14 mark of the first half but the Highland lead was cut in half by halftime as Highland led 45-36 at intermission.
In the second half the Scotties pushed the lead back out to 18-points again in the third quarter and led 66-50 entering the fourth. The lead remained double figures most of the fourth quarter until under four minutes to go when Southwestern cut the lead to eight at 76-68 and got within six before the Scotties capped the game on a 10-4 run to win 86-74.
Scotties shot 45.3% from the field in the contest and forced 31 Southwestern turnovers in the game notching 21 steals as a team in the win.
The trio of
Janiya Davis,
Stefania Chiziane and
Armani Turner accounted for 69 of the team's 86 points on the night. Davis dropped a career high 30 points on 11-15 shooting and 5-5 from the charity stripe, while adding nine rebounds, six steals and two assists. Chiziane posted her fourth straight 20+ point game scoring 24 points, while filling her stat line nicely with six rebounds, four assists and four steals. Turner matched her career high with 15 points and had five rebounds and four steals in the win.

Highland is scheduled for action on Monday, December 17th in Wichita, Kansas slated to take on Friends University JV but that game is in jeopardy due to lack of numbers for JV team for Friends. The contest is still scheduled for Monday at the moment, while the Scotties will head into the holiday break after a game at home against Livin' the Dream on Thursday, December 20th at 6:00pm.
