
OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Josiah Golden became the all-time victory leader in Johnson County baseball history with 20 victories on Thursday afternoon in a 10-0 win over Fort Scott.
The sophomore right-hand scattered four hits, walked two and allowed zero runs with five strikeouts in a five-inning run-rule victory. With the win Golden improved to 10-2 on the season and became the first pitcher to post two 10-win seasons in program history. He also tied a career record making his 29th start in a Cavaliers' uniform.
At the plate, Bo Shinkle belted a three-run home run, Carter Kelley drove in two runs, Jeremy Comer collected three hits and an RBI and Chris Mancinas had a single, double and RBI. Jake McClure, Miken Miller and Easton Roe each drove in a run as well.
In the second game, the Greyhounds took an early 3-0 lead, but Johnson County responded with four runs in the fourth, two in the sixth and four more in the seventh to post a 10-5 victory.
McClure went 3-for-5 with three RBI. Roe, Kelly and Ryker Edwards each drove in two runs to pace the Cavaliers offense.
Sophomore right-hander Sam Novotny got the start. He pitched four and one-third innings allowing three runs, two earned, off six hits and five strikeouts in a no decision effort.
Luke Fricker pitched one and two-thirds innings of relief was the winning pitcher. The right-hander allowed two runs off two hits and struck out four batters. Freshman right-hander Keston Holman pitched the final three innings allowing just two hits, zero runs with four strikeouts to pick up his eighth save, which is tied for second in the NJCAA.
Johnson County (43-11/25-5) travels to Fort Scott on Friday to close out the series and regular season.
