Garden City, KS-This was a laugher from the start.
Charlotte Sayer tied Jessica Newton's school record with five goals, Newton added four goals and four assists, and Garden City pounded Southeast, 18-0 Wednesday afternoon at Broncbuster Stadium.
The 18 goals scored also set a program record with Corey Bryant's team scoring nine in each half. They assisted on 14 of their 18 goals and allowed only two shots.
It was complete domination.
Sayer scored twice in the first thirty minutes while Newton easily found the back of the net as did Ariel Martinez on a pass from Clemence Raoult to make it 4-0. Martinez added another goal in the 31st minute followed by Newton's laser that blew past keeper Alexa Ramirez to give Garden City a 6-0 edge.
"The numbers are the numbers, but we are just trying to stay healthy," Bryant said after the match.
Sayer scored again before the half to give the Broncbusters a commanding 9-0 advantage. She followed with a pair of goals within two minutes of each other in the second period, capping off one of the most dominating performances in recent memory.
Garden City outshot the Bobcats, 51-2.
Newton has now scored 13 goals in five matches for Garden City, which improved to 3-2-0 overall. The sophomore currently leads the nation in assists (11) and goals.
