
The Kansas City Kansas Community College softball team split with the Johnson County Community College Cavaliers with a game one win of 10-8 and game two loss of 9-1. After recording their first conference loss, the Blue Devils are now tied for second place with Cowley (9-1) and behind Neosho (10-0).
In the first game, Sidney Sullivan led the Blue Devils and recorded two doubles and two RBIs. She had three hits and scored once. Ashton Russell was the other Blue Devil to record three hits, and she tallied one double. Abryelle Hill went 2-4 at the plate and brought in two runners. Kloey Dawes and Kaitlyn Cowan both had two RBIs. Dawes had a double, and Cowan recorded her second home run in the season.
Alyssa Droge went the distance and allowed all eight runs but earned seven. The Cavaliers recorded 12 hits on Droge and hit five home runs.
In game two, KCKCC scored one run from five hits. Russell was responsible for the run as she hit a solo home run in the top of the sixth inning. The four other hits came from Sydney Becker, Kinlei Boley, Dawes and Sullivan. Boley had the only other extra base hit as she hit a double.
Boley threw for 5.2 innings and let up nine runs, seven earned, from nine hits. She struck out three and let up five home runs.
The next series for the Blue Devils is April 12 as they take on Cloud County Community College at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. at the KCKCC softball field.
