
The Kansas City Kansas Community College softball team played four games in three days, eventually falling to the (3) Johnson County Community College Cavaliers. After the demanding win over Labette in the opening round, the Blue Devils had a tough matchup against the (1) Cowley College Tigers. They were able to take down the Tigers with a final score of 3-1. Moving to the semifinal game against JCCC, the Blue Devils fell with a score of 9-4.
Facing elimination, KCKCC had to take on (2) Neosho County in the semifinals, coming out victorious 5-3. This meant a rematch against JCCC in the championship. Because they had already lost one game in the double elimination tournament, KCKCC would have to beat the Cavaliers twice to be crowned champions. The game went back and forth, but JCCC was able to walk it off in the bottom of the seventh inning to win the 2025 DII Region VI Softball Tournament Championship.
In the game against Cowley, KCKCC opened the scoring in the first inning when Kloey Dawes drove in Sidney Sullivan. However, a storm delayed the game until the next day, resuming in the bottom of the third with the Blue Devils still holding a narrow lead. Cowley tied the game 1-1 in the bottom of the fifth, but Kinlei Boley came through with a two-run blast to centerfield, scoring Ashton Russell and giving KCKCC a 3-1 lead. Cowley was shut down in the seventh, and KCKCC earned its first win over the Tigers this season.
Alyssa Droge allowed just two hits against the No.1 seeded team and struck out two batters. The Blue Devils were able to get the best of the 2025 KJCCC DII Softball Pitcher of the Year and MVP, Mikah Vann, as she let up three runs from five hits and three walks.
Against JCCC, Kylie Vandervoort opened the scoring with a two-run home run in the top of the second. The Cavaliers responded quickly, posting four runs across the second and third innings to take a 4-2 lead. Dawes narrowed the gap with an RBI single in the fourth, scoring Vandervoort and moving Abryelle Hill into scoring position. JCCC extended its lead with two more runs in the bottom of the fourth. Sullivan cut it to a two-run game in the sixth with an RBI double, but the Cavaliers pulled away with two home runs in the final innings to seal the 9-4 win.
Droge threw for the opening 5.1 innings, allowing all nine runs from 10 hits. She walked three, struck out two and let up three home runs. Hanna Acree entered the game and recorded the final two outs in the game with both outs being strikeouts.
Against Neosho County, Russell started things off with an RBI double down the left field line, scoring Sullivan for a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Neosho tied it in the third, but Sullivan responded with a two-run home run, scoring Hill to regain the lead at 3-1. Neosho tied the game again in the fifth, but Sullivan delivered once more with a two-run double in the bottom half, plating Hill and Vandervoort for a 5-3 advantage. The rest of the game was scoreless as the Blue Devils held firm to advance.
In all seven innings, Droge allowed three runs from five hits. She walked three and struck out two of the 30 batters that she faced.
In the championship vs JCCC, the Blue Devils needed two wins to take the title in the double-elimination format. They came out aggressively, scoring a run in each of the first two innings. Boley drove in Sullivan with a double down the left field line, and Hill followed with an RBI double to right in the second, scoring Vandervoort for a 2-0 lead. JCCC got on the board in the fourth and took a 3-2 lead in the sixth off a solo home run and an RBI single.
KCKCC fought back in the seventh. With the bases loaded, Vandervoort blooped a single to right, tying the game at 3-3. However, the Blue Devils left the bases loaded with just one out. In the bottom half, Droge gave up a walk-off double down the left field line, scoring the winning run from second and handing JCCC the 2025 DII Region VI Softball Tournament title.
Droge went the distance and allowed four runs from seven hits, three walks and one home run. She struck out three Cavalier batters.
