Highland, Kan. – A 27-point third quarter helped the Scotties of Highland Community College defeat the Knights, 77-48, Saturday afternoon.
EmmaJo Locks led the Knights with 11 points and eight rebounds, while fellow sophomore guard Nevaeh Golden added 11 points.
Scoring was back and forth in the first quarter until a Scotties layup triggered a 10-4 run. North Platte rallied but it was not enough to take the lead from the home team.
Dezirae Gonzales opened the second quarter by connecting from long range, but the Scotties continued to match the Knights down the stretch to take a six-point lead into halftime.
Highland opened the third quarter on a 21-2 run. Five straight points helped narrow the margin, but Scotties were too much as they took a 65-39 lead into the final ten minutes.
Scotties matched the Knights in the fourth quarter, as they continued to hold the double-digit lead and close out the win.
North Platte (8-7) will return to the hardwood on Jan. 4 for a rematch with the Scotties. Tip is set for 2 p.m. inside the McDonald-Belton Gymnasium.
