Grizzlies can't overcome offensive woes falling at home to Barton

The Butler Grizzlies once again failed to complete a second half comeback after a cold first half performance, falling at home to the Barton Cougars 55-47 at the Power Plant on Saturday.

The Grizzlies scored 32 points in the second half but it was not enough to overcome a first quarter that saw them shoot just 2-13 from the field and score just four points. Butler finished just 29% from the field overall and just 2-18 from behind the three point line. After giving up 20 points in the second quarter and trailing by as many as 19 points, the Grizzlies went to the locker room down by 14. Butler got to within six points with less than five minutes to go but would get no closer.

Kaylee Nero was the lone bright spot for the Grizzlies offensively, finishing with 17 points and eight rebounds. No other Butler player scored more than ten points, with Jaila Harding and Cymirah Williams both finishing with eight. Harding accounted for both of the Grizzlies' two three point makes, as there just was not much to cheer for on the offensive side of the ball for Butler fans.

Defensively, Butler held the Cougars to 19% from three point range and Barton finished 38% overall. The Grizzlies outrebounded the Cougars, 39-28, led on the glass by Nero. The Grizzlies forced 16 Barton turnovers and accounted for 17 points off turnovers. 

The loss drops the Grizzlies to 15-9 overall and 12-9 in conference play. The Grizzlies lose at home for the second consecutive game, and will hope to get back to winning ways on Wednesday when they travel to Arkansas City to face the Cowley Tigers.
