Facing one of its toughest tests on the season, the No. 16-ranked Cowley College women's soccer team battled 8th-ranked Monroe College (NY) to a scoreless, double overtime tie Wednesday at the Arkansas City High School soccer field.
The teams each had scoring opportunities, but were unable to find the back of the net. Cowley is now 5-0-1 on the season, while Monroe moves to 4-1-1.
"We were expecting a battle and that is exactly what we got," Cowley head coach Roberto dos Santos said. "It was a great matchup against a very good opponent."
Mustang goalkeeper Stefane Rosa stopped all nine shots she faced. Not to be outdone, Makayla Farquharson stopped all seven shots Monroe placed on goal. Farquharson has only been scored on in one of Cowley's six games.
"I am proud of how our team fought throughout a tough 110 minutes," Dos Santos said. "They displayed a piece of what we can still become."
The Lady Tigers will host winless Neosho County (0-8) Friday at 5 p.m. at the Arkansas City High School soccer field.
