Gondo, Trivelato lead Tiger soccer team to 6-0 home win

With a showdown at No. 12-ranked Barton County looming on Wednesday, the No. 3-ranked Cowley College men's soccer team did a good job of not overlooking its opponent, Allen Community College, Saturday in Arkansas City, as the Tigers shutout the Red Devils 6-0.
Cowley, which improved its record to 5-0 on the season, got three first-half assists from sophomore Hideto Gondo and a pair of goals from Trivelato as they handed Allen (5-1-1) its first loss of the season.
"We were able to set the tone early. Being able to do that is important for us," Cowley head coach Ruy Vaz said. "This was one of our best performances of the year. We followed our game plan, worked hard, and focused on having fun."
Gondo assisted on Trivelato's first goal, which came just over one minute into Saturday's contest. He also assisted on first-half goals by Filipe Freitas and Pedro Arcoverde.
"Hideto has struggled a bit early on, but he works so hard, and his persistence paid off," Vaz said. "I am happy for him because he is extremely important to our team."
Trivelato would add his second goal of the game 10 minutes into the second half. Trivelato now leads the Tigers with three goals scored on the season.
"We moved Caique a little higher in the pitch, and he delivered," Vaz said.
Mate Kenyeres added his second goal of the season in the victory, and Anthony Pereira netted his first goal of the year.
"With the big lead, it was good to give some other players some minutes," Vaz said.
Sophomore goalkeeper Rafael Furlani stopped all four shots he faced in registering his second shutout of the season.
Cowley will now travel to Great Bend, KS, to face No. 12-ranked Barton County Wednesday at 1 p.m. The Cougars are 7-2 overall and 2-1 in the Jayhawk Conference Western Division.
"Barton is always a big rivalry game," Vaz said. "This is why we play is for games like this."
