April 21 – North Central Missouri College at Sedalia
SEDALIA, Mo. – The State Fair Community College baseball team defeated North Central Missouri College 8-5 in a nine-inning game Monday, April 21.
Sophomore outfielder Jordan Hedrick of Platte City led the SFCC offense with three hits, including a double, and a run scored. Freshman outfielder Devin Wassmann of Platte City launched two home runs, drove in four runs, and scored twice. Freshman outfielder/pitcher Collin Ross of Branson added two hits and a run. Freshman infielder Connor Rice of Sedalia recorded two hits and two RBIs. Freshman catcher Carter Rice of Sedalia doubled. SFCC totaled 12 hits.
Freshman pitcher Hunter Jones of Branson started, pitching two innings and allowing three runs on five hits with four strikeouts and two walks. Sophomore pitcher Chase Schnieders of Jefferson City (5-3) earned the win in relief with two innings of work and one strikeout. Sophomore pitcher Parker Lambeth of Springfield earned his fourth save, allowing two runs (one earned) and striking out one.
April 22 – Highland Community College-Kansas at Highland
HIGHLAND, Kan. – SFCC blanked Highland Community College-Kansas 14-0 in seven innings Tuesday, April 22, under the run rule.
Carter Rice led the offense with two hits, three stolen bases, and three runs scored. Sophomore middle infielder Sam Paule of Washington and freshman pitcher/catcher Albert Salguera of Valencia, Venezuela, each scored three times. Wassmann homered and drove in four runs, and Hedrick doubled and drove in four. Freshman middle infielder Christian Kuchta of Liberty drove in two runs. SFCC finished with eight hits.
Freshman first baseman/pitcher Aiden Morarity of Holden (1-2) earned the win, pitching five innings and allowing four hits with five strikeouts and three walks.
April 24 – Jefferson College at Hillsboro
HILLSBORO, Mo. – SFCC pulled out a 15-14 back-and-forth win over Jefferson College on Thursday, April 24.
Wassmann had three hits, including a double and a home run, with two RBIs and two runs scored. Sophomore outfielder/first baseman Dayne Wimberly of Platte City homered, scored twice, and drove in five runs. Hedrick added two hits and scored twice. Sophomore outfielder Caleb Briggs of Lee's Summit had two hits, three RBIs, and two runs scored. Ross added two hits and two RBIs. Paule doubled, and Connor Rice doubled and scored twice. Carter Rice contributed two hits and two runs scored. Freshman middle infielder Peyton Cooper of West Plains had two hits and two runs scored. SFCC collected 16 hits.
Schnieders started, pitching four innings and allowing six runs (four earned) on four hits, striking out one and walking six. Freshman pitcher Josh Hagle of Knob Noster pitched two-thirds of an inning in relief. Lambeth (4-1) earned the win with 2 1/3 innings pitched, allowing four runs (three earned) on four hits with four strikeouts.
April 26 – Jefferson College at Sedalia
SEDALIA, Mo. – SFCC (29-15) capped the regular season home schedule with a Region 16 doubleheader sweep of Jefferson College, winning 3-2 and 5-3 Saturday, April 26, on Sophomore Day.
In game one, Wimberly homered and drove in two runs. Salguera doubled and scored a run. Briggs added a hit, a run, and an RBI. Ross and Paule each added a hit.
Sophomore pitcher Nate Bartlett of Lee's Summit started, throwing three innings and allowing one run on two hits with six strikeouts and one walk. Hagle (2-0) earned the win with four innings of relief, allowing one run on two hits with three strikeouts.
In game two, Paule led the offense with a home run and two RBIs. Hedrick doubled. Wimberly, Ross, Connor Rice and Carter Rice each added a hit. Carter Rice also scored once and drew two walks.
Freshman pitcher Jacob Tellman of Jefferson City started, pitching six innings and allowing two runs on two hits with 10 strikeouts and five walks. Morarity (2-2) pitched the final three innings, allowing one unearned run on one hit with five strikeouts and one walk to earn the win.
