
OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The No. 13-ranked Johnson County baseball team completed a sweep over Neosho County on Saturday afternoon, winning the final two games of the series 5-4 and 16-4. With the four-game sweep the Cavaliers remain in a tie for first place with Cowley each with a 20-4 mark. JCCC stands 33-10 overall.
In the opener, the Cavaliers jumped out to a 4-0 lead but had hold off a late Neosho County rally for a one-run victory.
In the bottom of the first inning, Bo Shinkle belted a two-run home run over left field and Max Towchik singled home a run to go up 3-0. Shinkle drove in his third run the following inning with a sacrifice fly.
The Panthers got on the board in the top of the fourth off a solo home run, but in the bottom of the fifth Jeremy Comer answered back with a solo shot, which ended up being the game-winning hit and RBI.
Christian Bobzin led things off on the hill for the Cavaliers. The right-hander two hits and one run over four and one-third innings, striking out five batters, to earn the win. Right-hand reliever Keston Holman logged the final two and two-thirds innings and picked up a save.
In the final game, Johnson County ripped 20 hits, with five doubles, two ripples and three home runs.
The top of the order, Jake McClure, Shinkle and Miken Miller, collected 11 of those hits and scored eight of the team's 16 runs. McClure was 3-for-5 with two doubles and two runs scored. Shinkle was perfect with five hits in five at bats with a double, triple, three runs and an RBI and Miller had two singles, a home run, scored three times and drove in four runs.
East Roe and Ryker Edwards, the sixth and seventh hitters in the lineup, also provided offensive fireworks. Roe was 2-for-3 with a double and home run, two runs and three RBI, and Edwards went 4-for-4, scored three and drove in five with a three triple and a two-run homer.
Right-hander Denton Biller started and picked up the victory. He allowed three runs off three hits, walked three and struck out five over four innings.
The Cavaliers will break away from conference play for its next five games. They travel across town Tuesday, April 15 for a nine-inning game against Metropolitan. They welcome Dodge City in for a twin bill on Thursday, April 17 at 1 p.m. and Baker University on Monday, April 21 also a 1 p.m. start.
