Scotties Knock off #9 Ranked Red Ravens


Highland, Kan- For just the 5th time in school history, HCC defeated the #9 ranked Red Ravens of Coffeyville CC on Saturday with a final score of 48-10.
 
Coffeyville scored their first and only touchdown of the day on their first possession on a 3-yard run by Antwan Barksdale and took the early 7-0 lead.
 
It wouldn't last long as Highland answered with a 24-yard Demarre Kitt touchdown reception from Kahlil Render with 8:23 left in the 1st quarter.
 
Two minutes later, Kahlil Render connected with Demarre Kitt once again; this time for 34-yards and the score. 2-point conversion good on the pass to Ronnie Jamison and Highland took a 14-7 lead with 6:30 left in the 1st.
 
Coffeyville would knock down a 13-yard field goal with 5:37 left in the 2nd quarter to cut Highland's lead to only four. That would turn out to be their final score of the day.
 
Freshmen wide-receiver Ronnie Jamison answered the Red Ravens field goal by returning the ensuing kickoff 89-yards for a touchdown; the first kickoff return of the season for the Scotties.
 
The Scotties found the end zone one last time before the half on a 9-yard touchdown reception by freshman tight-end Bailen Brumfield. Highland took a 28-10 lead into the locker room.
 
Brumfield struck again on the first possession of the 3rd quarter with a 54-yard touchdown reception from Kahlil Render; his second of the day. Brumfield would finish the day with four catches for 77-yards and two touchdowns. That pass by Render would set a new school record for career touchdown passes at 33.
 
Highland found the end zone again with 4:27 left in the 3rd this time on a 15-yard rush by Kahlil Render. A good 2-point conversion gave Highland the 42-10 lead.
 
The Scotties capped of their scoring with a 14-yard Ra'Quanne Dickens rushing touchdown with 3:50 left to play in the game.
 
Highland went on to defeat the Red Ravens 48-10 earning their seventh win of the season; the most wins in a year since the 1993 season. The Scotties finished a perfect 5-0 at home this season. 
 
The Scotties will play their last regular season game in Iowa Falls, IA as they take on the Panthers of Ellsworth CC at 1:00pm.
