KJCCC Baseball West Division Players of the Week - Week 12
COLBY, Kan. – Cloud County Community College freshman Matthew Evans and Barton Community College freshman Braden Hauschel have each collected Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference Baseball West Division Athlete of the Week honors after helping the T-Birds to a series win over Butler and tossing six-plus shutout innings in a non-conference win against top-five ranked Cowley College.
Matthew Evans – Cloud County (KJCCC Baseball West Division Player of the Week)
Redshirt freshman Matthew Evans batted .529 last week with a 1.059 slugging percentage, helping the Cloud County baseball team earn its fifth conference series win of the season by taking three of four games against Butler Community College. Evans had nine hits with two home runs, a triple, and a double in the series. Evans, who had 18 total bases, also tallied five RBI and scored six runs with two stolen bases.
Braden Hauschel – Barton (KJCCC Baseball West Division Pitcher of the Week)
Midweek starter Braden Hauschel extended his scoreless streak to 13.1 innings in number 19 Barton's 10-0 run-rule victory over number three Cowley. The freshman starter was excellent on the bump, going 6.1 innings while permitting just four Tiger hits. Striking out four, Hauschel improved to 4-1 on the season. Over Hauschel's last three starts, the Topeka, Kansas native is 2-0 with a 1.88 ERA in 14.1 innings pitched. Over that span, Hauschel has allowed three runs, scattering eight hits, walking six, and fanning 18 batters. On the season, the freshman has tossed 25.1 innings in six starts, sporting a 2.13 ERA with a strikeout rate of 9.95 per nine innings.
