KJCCC Men's Basketball Players of the Week - Week 14
COLBY, Kan. – A repeat award winner and a first-time honoree have earned Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week honors with Eternity Eguagie (Colby) and Trent Thompson (Hesston) earning week 14 awards.
Eternity Eguagie – Colby (KJCCC Division 1 Men’s Basketball Player of the Week)
Eternity Eguagie came up big in both of Colby's wins last week, helping the Trojans go 2-0 on the week which included an upset victory over number 18 Butler Community College. Against the Grizzlies to start the week, Eguagie scored 23 points and grabbed three rebounds to go along with one steal as Colby earned a 72-70 upset win at home. Colby then closed the week at Pratt as the Trojans were led in a double overtime effort against the Beavers by Eguagie's 32-point, 17-rebound double-double which saw the freshman forward hit the game-winning shot. This season, Eguagie ranks fourth in the KJCCC in scoring (18.9 points per game).
Trent Thompson – Hesston (KJCCC Division 2 Men’s Basketball Player of the Week)
In three games for the Larks last week, Thompson averaged 20 points and 9 rebounds per contest while leading Hesston to a pair of home wins. The freshman opened the week with a 24-point outing against Highland to go along with six rebounds before closing out the week by sparking a 24-point second-half comeback against Fort Scott with a 27-point, 17-rebound double-double against the Greyhounds. For the week, Thompson shot 77 percent from the field and 63 percent from beyond the arc along with an 83.3 percent free-throw shooting performance.
