KJCCC Men's Basketball Players of the Week - Week 6
COLBY, Kan. – Another big week of performances within the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference was led by the Week 6 KJCCC Men’s Basketball Players of the Week Marcus Whitlock Jr. (Cowley) and Tavian Tate (Highland).
Marcus Whitlock Jr. – Cowley (KJCCC Division 1 Men’s Basketball Player of the Week)
Whitlock had a big week, averaging 30 points per game while helping the number 13 ranked Tigers defeat Fort Hays Tech Northwest and Colby to keep Cowley atop the KJCCC standings with a 6-0 mark in conference play. Against Fort Hays Tech Northwest, Whitlock scored 28 points on 10-18 shooting and grabbed six rebounds to go along with three assists and two blocks. The freshman followed that up with a career-high 32 points in an 83-76 road win at Colby on eight-of-15 shooting and a five-of-nine performance from beyond the arc and netting all 11 free throw attempts. This season, Whitlock ranks ninth in the KJCCC in scoring with 15.9 points per game and is averaging 19.3 points per contest in conference play along with 4.3 rebounds per game.
Tavian Tate – Highland (KJCCC Division 2 Men’s Basketball Player of the Week)
Tate had a solid week for the Scotties, playing all but two minutes and turning in a double-double in Highland's 75-64 win over Metropolitan Community College on Tuesday night. The freshman knocked down a career-high five three-pointers against Doane JV to open the Southeast Holiday Classic on Friday and was a near-perfect seven-of-eight from the free throw line against Southeast on Saturday.
