High-Profile Matchups Lead To Mass Changes In NJCAA Men's Basketball Rankings
NJCAA Division 1 Men’s Basketball Week 4 Poll | NJCAA Division 2 Men’s Basketball Week 4 Poll
CHARLOTTE, NC – Mass changes across the nation has led to multiple shakeups throughout the latest NJCAA Division 1 and Division 2 Men’s Basketball Top 25 rankings, with Kansas Jayhawk Community College teams included in the latest shuffling of teams throughout the rankings.
Across both the NJCAA Division 1and Division 2 top 25 polls for week four, just four teams from the prior week’s rankings hold the same ranking this week after seeing multiple high-profile contests between ranked teams take place across the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. This week’s rankings include five ranked teams from the KJCCC in the latest Division 1 rankings, along with one team from the conference ranked in the Division 2 rankings, with one of the six teams currently holding a ranking in top five of their respective poll.
The lone team not to see their ranking change in this week’s NJCAA Division 2 top 25 poll was Johnson County Community College as the Cavaliers continue to hold the number three ranking for a second-straight week after picking up a six-point road win over Metropolitan Community College last week in their only action of the week to improve to 10-0. JCCC is currently outscoring NJCAA opponents by 16.4 points per game and is one off 11 unbeaten teams that are currently ranked in the NJCAA Division 2 rankings.
Responsible for much of the shakeup yet again in the NJCAA Division 1 rankings, the KJCCC saw a battle of their two highest-ranked teams last week lead to a win for Coffeyville over Barton to move the Red Ravens back up five spots from number 15 up to number 10 to become the highest-ranked conference school for the third time amongst the four polls released by the NJCAA this season. Barton’s loss was partially offset by a home win over Colby prior to their loss at Coffeyville as the Cougars fell four spots down to number 15 this week while Cowley College moved back up two spots to number 21 with wins over Cloud County and Colby.
The lone unbeaten team in the KJCCC standings after the first two weeks of conference play, Garden City has worked its way into the rankings for the first time this season by being ranked number 25 this week after receiving votes last week as the Broncbusters are currently 8-1 overall and 3-0 in the KJCCC. After receiving votes in both the preseason and week one polls, Butler has made their way back into the group of teams receiving votes as the Grizzlies picked up wins over Pratt and Fort Hays Tech Northwest last week to improve to 7-3 overall and 3-1 in the KJCCC while averaging a league best a106.3 points per contest (fourth-highest average among NJCAA Division 1 teams).
Another 26 games are set to take place throughout this week, beginning Monday night with Fort Scott playing at Redlands Community College before seeing Highland, Neosho County, and Kansas City Kansas all play non-conference games on Tuesday night. Six of the seven games scheduled for Wednesday will take place between conference teams which includes a key battle between Butler and Garden City. Also taking place on Wednesday night is a matchup between Coffeyville and Cowley in Arkansas City while Barton will host Hutchinson in another game that could have an early impact on the KJCCC standings. Saturday will be another busy day across the conference, with 10 games taking place highlighted by Cowley traveling to Hutchinson and Coffeyville hosting Dodge City.
