Cowley Men's Soccer Wins NJCAA Plains District Title, Advances To National Tournament For Fifth Time In Six Years
COLBY, Kan. – In a battle of the top two teams in the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference regular season standings and an NJCAA Division 1 Men’s Soccer Plains District Title on the line, fifth ranked Cowley Community College earned a 2-1 victory to advance to their fourth straight NJCAA Division 1 Men’s Soccer National Tournament on Saturday, November 9th in Chanute, Kansas.
COLBY, Kan. – In a battle of the top two teams in the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference regular season standings and an NJCAA Division 1 Men’s Soccer Plains District Title on the line, fifth ranked Cowley Community College earned a 2-1 victory to advance to their fourth straight NJCAA Division 1 Men’s Soccer National Tournament on Saturday, November 9th in Chanute, Kansas.
After going 9-0-3 in conference play, the Tigers outscored postseason foes 10-1 on their way to the title as part of a 7-0-2 stretch since their lone loss of the season to Indian Hills Community College on September 25th.
Last season, Cowley went 1-0-1 at the 2023 NJCAA Division 1 Men’s Soccer National Tournament with a 2-2 draw against Monroe College (Monroe won 4-2 in penalty kicks) before defeating Angelina College 3-1 as the Tigers did not advance out of pool play. In each of the last three NJCAA Division 1 Men’s Soccer National Tournaments, Cowley has been knocked out by either the National Champion or National Runner up with Monroe College knocking out the Tigers in each of the last two seasons and Arizona Western accounting for the other elimination. Since the 2018 season, Cowley has made the National Tournament every year with the exception the 2021 campaign while posting a 5-5-1 record at the National Tournament.
The 2024 NJCAA Division 1 Men’s Soccer National Tournament is scheduled to take place November 17-23 at Scheels Stryker Sports Complex in Wichita, Kansas with the official tournament seeding set to be revealed on Wednesday, November 13th. Eight district tournament winners who received automatic bids into the tournament along with four teams who will receive at large berths will be seeded and broken into four pools with each team playing two games in pool play over the first three days of action. The winner of the four pools will then advance to the National Semifinals with the National Championship match scheduled for Saturday, November 23rd.
