KJCCC Men's Track & Field Athletes of the Week - Outdoor Week 1

Outdoor track and field season is underway and week one of KJCCC Athletes of the Week have been awarded.
MEN'S FIELD Athlete of the Week
Treyvon Ferguson (Coffeyville) - At the TSU Relays he went 7.26m in the Long Jump, while he went 16.19m in the Triple Jump setting a new Coffeyville School Record currently ranked #1 in the NJCAA!
MEN'S TRACK Athlete of the Week
Dennis Mutai (Garden City) - 14:24- 5k #1 NJCAA - Mutai competed in a very competitive 5000m run at the West Texas Spring Break Classic; hosted by West Texas A&M. The field included indoor 5k national champion Vincent Nchogu of Northwest Kansas as well as All Americans Oliver Kiptoo and Enock Kimutai. The race was bunched up all the way up to the 2000m mark and that is when Mutai took the lead and began to push the pace. for the remainder of the race, Mutai and Nchogu battled for the lead and with 200 meters left, Mutai changed gears and took a dominating lead to win the race in a time of 14:24.28. Mutai's national qualifying performance shattered Garden City's school record by 36 seconds as well as he currently sits #1 in the nation for NJCAA in the event.
