JCCC's Conrad, player honored by WBCA

Johnson County Community College head women's basketball coach Ben Conrad and sophomore guard Erica Nelson (Lee's Summit North) recently received honors from the Women's Basketball Coaches Association.

Conrad was named as the 2016 United States Marine Corps/WBCA Junior/Community College National Coach of the Year by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association. Conrad will be presented the prestigious Pat Summitt Trophy at the annual WBCA Award Show April 5 at the WBCA National Convention in Indianapolis, Ind. Conrad recently completed his eighth season at the college, leading the Lady Cavaliers to a No.1 ranking and an unblemished 30-0 record during the regular season.

Nelson was named a first-team All-American by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA).  The WBCA Junior/Community Colleges Coaches All-America Team includes players from all three NJCAA divisions. Nelson was one of 10 players to make the first-team. Nelson led the Lady Cavaliers in scoring (16.6), 3-point baskets (80), free throws (108), assists (150) and steals (46). Nelson's 16.6 per average ranked third in the Jayhawk Conference and she was the conference leader in assists.
