Region VI Basketball : Day Two Recap
Day Two of the 2018 Region VI Basketball Championships provided plenty of hard-nosed action from the women's teams. Read a short account of each action-packed match-up.
Game 1
PARK CITY -- The top-seeded Seward County Saints had little problems with No. 8 Coffeyville en route to a 103-64 victory to open up quarterfinal play on Monday afternoon.
Seward used a balanced scoring attack that included five players scoring in double figures, led by Vilma Covane's 20 points. Coffeyville was led by Tatiana McCree with 21 points.
The Saints advance to Tuesday's semifinal game at 3 PM and will play the winner of Cowley/Butler, which will be played Monday evening at 7 PM.
Game 2
PARK CITY -- The Hutchinson Blue Dragons used a dominating second half of defense to propel themselves into Tuesday's semifinal round with a 55-36 win over Garden City.
The Blue Dragons were led by Dejanae Roebucks 11-point and 11-rebound performance. Hutchinson's defense held Garden City to 27 percent shooting. The Broncbusters were led by Jada Washington's 14 points.
Hutchinson will now play the winner of Cloud/Independence in Tuesday's 1 PM semifinal game at Hartman Arena.
Game 3
PARK CITY -- The Independence Pirates were able to pull away late in the fourth quarter to defeat Cloud County, 52-44 and advance to Tuesday's Region VI semifinal at Hartman Arena.
The Pirates were led by Jordan Schoenberger's 20 points and nine rebounds in the win. Scout Frame led the T-Birds with 13 points and four rebounds.
Independence will face No. 2 Hutchinson in Tuesday's Region VI semifinal at 1 PM.
Game 4
PARK CITY -- The Cowley Tigers battled back from a double-digit deficit early in the fourth quarter to get past Butler, 69-67 and earn a berth in the Region VI semifinals on Tuesday.
The Tigers led by six at halftime, but a Butler rally in the third quarter put the Grizzlies ahead. Cowley outscored the Grizzlies by nine in the final 10 minutes to seal the win.
Cowley was led by Brenda Silva's 24 points and 14 rebounds, while Butler was led by Ericka Mattingly's 19. The Tigers will face No. 1 Seward on Tuesday afternoon at 3 PM.
