2018 Women's Basketball All-KJCCC Awards
ARKANSAS CITY, Kan. - Mollie Mounsey of Seward County earned her second straight Player of the Year honor while Toby Wynn (Seward County) also claimed his second straight honor as Coach of the Year award to headline the 2017-18 Division I Women's Basketball Awards. On the Division II side, Highland's Mariane Carvalho was named the Player of the Year after earning Freshman of the Year Honors last season while BJ Smith (Highland) was named the Coach of the Year.
Mounsey led the Saints to the 2017-18 KJCCC regular season title while also claiming the Region VI Division I Tournament Championship and a berth to the NJCAA National Championship in Lubbock, Texas. Carvalho achieved similar results for the Highland Scotties as they finished with a perfect record to claim both the KJCCC regular season title and the Region VI Division II Tournament Championship and a trip to the National Championship.
Jada Mickens (Hutchinson) earned the Division I Freshman of the Year honors while Upe Atosu (Labette) claimed the award for Division II. Butler's Ericka Mattingly was named the Division I Defensive Player of the Year and it was Johnson County's Tristan McFeeders who was the top defender in Division II.
Cowley, Hutchinson, Independence, and Seward County all advanced to the semi-finals of the Region 6 tournament and each placed two on the Division I All-KJCCC First Team. Highland placed a trio on the Division II All-KJCCC First team to lead the way.
The All-KJCCC awards are selected by the league's head coaches, who are not allowed to vote for their own players.
