KJCCC Div. I East Women's Basketball Post-Season Honors Announced
Complete list of the 2020-21 Awards Selections
Heading to the NJCAA Div. I Women's Basketball tournament and winning their third-straight KJCCC East title, Butler leads the KJCCC East in All-Conference selections landing four on the postseason list with a Co-Most Valuable Player and Coach of the Year. Region VI Champion Independence awarded Defensive and Freshman of the Year.
Coach of the Year:
For the third-straight year, Butler head coach Mike Helmer has been selected as the East Coach of the Year after leading his team to a 20-3 overall record and their third consecutive KJCCC East championship along with the Grizzlies third straight season attending the NJCAA Div. I National Tournament.
CO-Most Valuable Players:
Tamara Nard led the Grizzlies to a third-straight KJCCC East title and another trip to the NJCAA Div. I National Tournament. Nard averaged 12.8 points per game shooting 48% on the season. She averaged 7.7 rebounds per game and had 32 blocks on the season. Nard was a strong defensive presence inside all season long as Butler led the NJCAA in FG% defense keeping teams to an average of under 30% shooting all season long.
Faith Simpson helped the Red Ravens to a 15-7 overall record and 13-6 KJCCC record. Simpson nearly averaged a double-double on the season with her 17.2 points per game on 54% shooting and 9.5 rebounds per game.
Freshman of the Year & Defensive Player of the Year:
Rapuluchi Favor Ayodele Ngorka averaged a double-double on the season with 11.1 points and 11.9 rebounds per game. She led the KJCCC in total rebounds and was second in steals with 58 on the year. Ngorka helped the Pirates to a Region VI Championship and a birth to the NJCAA Div. I National Tournament.
