2022-23 All-KJCCC Women's Division II Basketball Selections
Nominated and voted upon by conference coaches, the 2022-23 Division II Women's Basketball postseason selections were headlined by Most Valuable Player Mackenzie Hart from Johnson County, Freshman of the Year Jada Johnson from Kansas City Kansas, Defensive Player of the Year Shade Richardson from Allen and Coach of the Year Mitch Rolls from Labette
Most Valuable Player: Mackenzie Hart – Johnson County Community College
Sophomore guard Mackenzie Hart became the sixth Lady Cavalier women's basketball player to be selected MVP of the Kansas Jayhawk D-II Conference. Hart finished second in the conference in scoring average at 14.6 points per game and finished in double figures in 25 of the team's 33 games, highlighted by a career high 31 in a win over Hesston. She also ranked second in the conference in 3-point field goal accuracy (39.3%), third in made 3-point field goals (55), fourth in total assists (117), fifth in assists per game (3.8) and fifth in field goal accuracy (46.3%). She was selected as the KJCCC D-II Player of the Week four times, earning the honor in weeks three, seven, 11 and 14.
Freshman of the Year: Jada Johnson – Kansas City Kansas Community College
Jada Johnson had a breakout freshman campaign, leading Kansas City Kansas in scoring with an average of 14.0 per game. She topped double figures 20 times and scored 20+ points five times, including a season high 25 in win over North Central Missouri. She also averaged 4.8 rebounds, 1.5 steals, 1.2 assists and made 46.5% of her field goal attempts, which ranked fourth in the conference.
Defensive Player of the Year: Shade Richardson – Allen Community College
Allen guard Shade Richardson closed out her sophomore season averaging 7.7 points, 4.8 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 2.1 steals per game. She was the only Red Devil player to start all 30 games. Voted the top defensive player of the year, Allen head coach Leslie Crane says Richardson has great anticipation and knowledge of the game which she uses to wreak havoc on her opponents. She uses her athleticism to intercept passes, close down on penetrating scorers and became one of the top rebounding guards in the conference.
Coach of the Year: Mitch Rolls – Labette Community College
For the second time in his eight-year career at Labette, head coach Mitch Rolls has taken home the Coach of the Year honor. He also was selected in 2019-20. This season, Rolls led his team to a 26-5 record, a share of the KJCCC D-II Championship and a runner-up finish in the Region 6/Plains District Tournament. His team was ranked in the top 10 in 15 of the 16 NJCAA D-II polls and closed out the year ranked fifth.
