2020-21 All-Conference Selections Announced
(KJCCC) June 18, 2021 -- Leading their team to the program's first ever national tournament berth, Head Coach Shawn Uhlenhake and Player of the Year Katharina Oelschlaeger of Kansas City Kansas Community College are among the 2020-21 KJCCC All-Conference selections.
Joining the pair on the East's Division I list was defensive stopper Shyanne Reid of Coffeyville Community College.
On the Division I West's side of the conference, Esther Karhayu of Hutchinson Community College was named the Player of the Year as Cowley College took two of the top three awards with Head Coach Roberto Do Santos and Defensive Player of the Year Harlie Findley.
KCK had five players on the East's first team with Johnson County placing four while Cowley's five led the West's selections as Barton and Hutchinson each had three.
Allen Community College placed six on the Division II's first team selections as Pratt had five.
Division I East Awards
Player of the Year – Katharina Oelschlaeger (KCK)
The freshman from Germany helped led the 10th ranked Blue Devils to the top offensive squad in the East, netting a second best 11 goals and 9 assists. Finishing the season at the NJCAA National Tournament, Oelschlager completed her collegiate debut accumulating a conference leading and nationally 11th best 31 total points including a pair of five point outings.
Defensive Player of the Year – Shyanne Reid (Coffeyville)
Reid helped anchor the Raven's defensive line and second place finish for Coffeyville at 8-5 and 8-6 overall. The freshman from Brampton, Canada, also helped lead the team to its biggest win to wrap up the regular season in knocking off 7th ranked KCK 2-1.
Coach of the Year – Shawn Uhlenhake (KCK)
Is his 5th season at the helm, Uhlenhake led the Blue Devils to the East Division crown in rolling through the conference at 11-1-1. Climbing to as high as 7th in the country winning its first its eleven games, Uhlenhake's Blue Devils received an at-large berth to advance to the program's first ever NJCAA National Tournament appearance, concluding the season at 12-4-1.
Division I West Awards
Player of the Year – Esther Karhayu (Hutchinson)
A first team All-Conference selection last season, Karhayu put together another strong season for the Blue Dragons. Leading the West's top offensive team, the native of Mombassa, Kenya, had a trio of mulit-goal outings in finding the net a division second best nine times with four game winners.
Defensive Player of the Year – Harlie Findley (Cowley)
Like Karhayu, Findley was also a first team All-Conference selection last season in helping the 16th ranked Tigers to consecutive conference championships. The native of Oologah, Oklahoma, helped anchor the West's top defensive squad in surrendering less than one goal per outing in completing the season at 10-2-1 and 10-3-1 overall.
Coach of the Year – Roberto dos Santos (Cowley)
In just his third year as the women's head coach, dos Santos has led the Tigers to back-to-back conference championships. This year's Tigers began the season ranked 11th in the country, suffering an opening day loss to eventual East champion KCK, before going unbeaten in their next eleven contests. Completing the season at 10-2-1 in conference and 10-3-1 overall, dos Santos' well-rounded squad put five players in four different positions on the West's first team.
