2021-22 KJCCC West Division I Women's Soccer Selections Announced
The 2021-22 KJCCC West Division I post-season selections include three-time Coach of the Year Roberto dos Santos from Cowley College, Player of the Year Hadlie Lowe of Hutchinson Community College, and Defensive Player of the Year Elsa Pelicant of Cowley College.
Coach Santos' Tigers led the selections with seven of the twenty-two member post-season accolade list, three landing on the first team led by Pelicant. Conference runner-up Barton, as well as, third place Hutchinson, landed three of their six selections on the first team.
Division I West Awards
Coach of the Year – Roberto dos Santos (Cowley)
Coach Santos picks up his third straight Coach of the Year honor, winning his first honor on the East side of the Division I teams with the last two coming on the West side. Santos' Tigers rolled through the West division with a 12-1 record, winning seven straight after their lone loss in capturing the program's third straight conference title. Climbing to a program record No. 9 NJCAA national ranking in the final poll, the Tigers' season came to heartbreaking end on penalty kicks of the Region VI/Plains District Championship, concluding the season at 15-1-2.
Player of the Year – Hadlie Lowe (Hutchinson)
Lowe made quite the freshman debut this season for not only Hutchinson but around the league in being named the Player of the Year. Picking up two KJCCC Player of the Week awards during the season, Lowe was also named the week 10 NJCAA Player of the Week becoming just the second Blue Dragon to receive a national weekly award. The freshman from Wichita, Kansas, led the West in goals (17) and points (37) helping Hutchinson to a third place conference finish at 7-5-1. The Blue Dragons completed their season at 8-6-1 as Hadlie finished the year with a Region VI second best 18 goals and third best 39 points in just the fourteen games played while adding three assists.
Defensive Player of the Year – Elsa Pelicant (Cowley)
A first team defender last year, Pelicant earns the Defensive Player of the Year for the 2021 season helping lead the Tigers to the KJCCC West crown at 12-1. The sophomore from Rhone Alpes, France, helped anchor the West's stingiest defense of surrendering just eight goals in the thirteen games including seven shutouts. On the season Pelicant and the Tigers denied opponents the net in ten of their games, rising to a program high 9th NJCAA national ranking before falling in the Region VI/Plains District Championship game on penalty kicks, concluding the season at 15-1-2. Offensively Pelicant also contributed 16 points to the Tigers' success, netting six goals and distributing four assists.
