COLBY, Kan. – Spending a majority of the year in the NJCAA Division 1 Volleyball top 10, Barton Community College and Colby Community College have both qualified for the 2024 NJCAA Division 1 Volleyball National Tournament which is set to begin on Wednesday, November 20th.

Barton won the NJCAA Division 1 Volleyball Plains District Tournament with 3-0 sweeps of Pratt, Garden City, and Colby in the postseason tournament to punch their ticket for the 25th time in program history as the Cougars last made an appearance in the postseason during the 2020 season that was played during the spring of 2021. The 25 appearances are the most in NJCAA Division 1 Volleyball history as BCC first made the National Tournament in 1984 and have two more appearances than Miami Dade College which is second with 23 appearances including the 2024 National Tournament.

Colby received one of the four at-large berths into the National Tournament after falling to Barton in the Plains District Tournament Championship match as the Trojans will make their second-straight trip to the National Tournament as the 2024 tournament will serve as the fourth appearance in program history (1977, 1978, 2023, and 2024). Entering the National Tournament, Colby boasts a 26-4 overall record with two of their four losses coming to Barton along with a four-set loss at Garden City and a five-set neutral-site defeat to National Tournament qualifier Northeastern Junior College.

Seeding for the 2024 NJCAA Division 1 Volleyball National Tournament was announced last week with Barton earning the number six seed while Colby has drawn the number 13 seed in the 16-team tournament. The double-elimination tournament will take place over the course of four days inside the Dunn Center on the campus of Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, Tennessee with the National Championship match set for 7 PM (CST) on Saturday, November 23rd.

Barton’s opening match of the tournament will take place at 10 AM (CST) against 11-seed Navarro College as the Bulldogs earned one of the four at-large berths into the National Tournament after dropping the Mid-South District Championship (Region 14) match to National Tournament four seed Blinn. The Cougars and Bulldogs faced off in the regular season on the opening weekend at the Garden City Community College Scooter's Coffee Invitational where Barton earned a 3-0 sweep. Navarro started the season 6-6 overall but has won 15 of their past 20 matches played with three of the five losses coming to Blinn.

Colby will look to improve upon last season’s NJCAA National Tournament appearance that saw the Trojans go 1-2 with losses to eventual National Champion Florida SouthWestern State and Indian Hills Community College. Opening their 2024 National Tournament with a 7 PM match against four-seed Blinn College who is making their fifth-straight appearance at the NJCAA Division 1 Volleyball National Tournament and carries a 38-2 overall record into Wednesday’s match. Of the two losses for the Buccaneers, one is to last year’s National Runner-Up and 2024 number two seed Miami Dade College as Blinn has won 31 straight matches with their last loss coming on August 31st.
