Barton Volleyball Claims 22nd KJCCC Title In Program History, Plains District Tournament Begins November 6th
COLBY, Kan. – Posting a 15-1 mark in Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference matches this season, Barton Community College has won their second-straight KJCCC Division 1 volleyball regular season title and top overall seed in the upcoming NJCAA Division 1 Volleyball Plains District Tournament.
COLBY, Kan. – Posting a 15-1 mark in Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference matches this season, Barton Community College has won their second-straight KJCCC Division 1 volleyball regular season title and top overall seed in the upcoming NJCAA Division 1 Volleyball Plains District Tournament.
The Cougars earn their 22nd KJCCC title in program history after going 28-2 in the regular season as their only conference loss came at the hands of regular season runner-up Colby Community College on October 16th. Barton ended the regular season on a five-match winning streak and won 46 of 52 sets that they played in conference action as BCC will look for their 24th NJCAA Volleyball national tournament appearance and first since 2020.
Colby earns the number two seed in the upcoming NJCAA Division 1 Volleyball Plains District Tournament after going 24-3 overall in the regular season and 14-2 in the conference play after making the NJCAA Division 1 Volleyball national tournament for the third time in program history last year after winning the Plains District Title as the number three seed. Colby’s only conference losses were to Barton and Garden City as 13 of their 14 conference wins came by sweep.
Other teams to earn hosting rights in the opening round of the Plains District Tournament include three-seed Dodge City (20-13 overall, 11-5 KJCCC record) and four-seed Butler (18-14 overall, 10-6 KJCCC record) as both will look to make a second-straight trip to the Plains District Tournament semifinals. Dodge City upset third-seeded Hutchinson last year to make the semifinal round for a second-straight year before falling to district champion Colby while the Grizzlies knocked off regular season champion Barton last season to make the Plains District Title game before falling to the Trojans.
Other teams to qualify for the Plains District Tournament include fifth-seeded Garden City, sixth-seeded Hutchinson, seventh-seeded Seward County, and eighth-seeded Pratt as all four will be on the road for the opening round of the tournament on Wednesday, November 6th.
The 2024 NJCAA Division 1 Volleyball Plains District Tournament will get underway with four matches on Wednesday as top-seed Barton will host Pratt at 6 PM, two-seed Colby will host Seward County at 6:30 PM, three-seed Dodge City will host Hutchinson at 6 PM and four-seed Butler will host Garden City at 6 PM.
Winners of the four opening-round matches will meet at the highest remaining seed over the weekend for the semifinal and finals with the winner of the Barton/Pratt match playing the winner of the Butler/Garden City match in the first semifinal at 4 PM while the second semifinal will feature the winner of Colby/Seward County against the winner of Dodge City/Hutchinson and will take place 60 minutes after the conclusion of the first semifinal match. The 2024 Plains District Championship match will take place the following day and is scheduled for 2 PM.
