Cowley Volleyball Wins KJCCC D2 Regular Season Title, Postseason Tournament Brackets Set
COLBY, Kan. – Extending their overall win streak to 75 consecutive matches, Cowley Community College has won the 2024 Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference Division 2 volleyball regular season crown and top seed in this week’s NJCAA Division 2 Volleyball Plains District A Tournament.
COLBY, Kan. – Extending their overall win streak to 75 consecutive matches, Cowley Community College has won the 2024 Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference Division 2 volleyball regular season crown and top seed in this week’s NJCAA Division 2 Volleyball Plains District A Tournament.
The Tigers won all 10 conference matches as part of a 34-0 regular season record as Cowley has now won 76 consecutive regular season matches dating back to the 2022 season when CCC won their final seven matches of the regular season. The last defeat for Cowley came on November 19, 2022 at the NJCAA Division 2 Volleyball National Tournament when the Tigers fell 3-2 to Grand Rapids Community College in the fifth-place match as CCC has dropped a total of just nine sets over the course of their 75-match win streak.
Finishing in a tie for second in the conference standings was Johnson County Community College and Kansas City Kansas Community College with the Cavaliers holding the head-to-head tiebreaker after winning 3-0 over the Blue Devils in the conference opener for both teams on August 28th. The league standings also had a tie for fourth with Allen County and Highland both finishing 7-3 in conference as the Red Devils held the tiebreaker by virtue of a 3-2 win over the Scotties on October 16th. Neosho County and Coffeyville also have qualified for the postseason with the Red Ravens getting the final spot after finishing tied with Fort Scott in the standings but holding the head-to-head tiebreaker with a four-set win on September 18th.
Cowley, Allen, Highland, and Coffeyville will make up the 2024 NJCAA Division 2 Volleyball Plains District A Tournament bracket with the Tigers playing host to the Red Ravens and Allen hosting Highland with both matches set for Wednesday, November 6th. First serve between Cowley and Coffeyville will be at 6:30 PM in Arkansas City, Kansas while the Red Devils and Scotties will get underway at 6 PM in Iola.
In the NJCAA Division 2 Volleyball Plains District B Tournament, Johnson County earns the top overall seed and will host Neosho County at 6 PM on Wednesday, November 6th in Overland, Park Kansas as the two teams will play for the second time in a week against one another. Two-seed Kansas City Kansas will host NJCAA Region 2 Champion Northeast Oklahoma A&M in a 6:30 PM match at Rockhurst University.
Winners of the two semifinal matches in the Plains District B Tournament will kick off Championship Saturday for the Plains District as both championship matches will take place inside Garvey Gymnasium on the campus of Friends University in Wichita, Kansas with first serve set for 12 PM. The second match will feature the two winners of the Plains District A Tournament semifinal matches 60 minutes after the conclusion of the Plains District B Championship match (approximately 2:30 PM) as both winners on Saturday will earn an automatic bid into the 2024 NJCAA Division 2 Volleyball National Tournament which will take place November 20-23, 2024 inside the Alliant Energy Powerhouse Arena in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
