CHARLOTTE, NC – Midway through the final month of the regular season, the latest NJCAA Division 1 and 2 volleyball polls have seemed to solidify with little change occurring to the week 7 polls released on Monday, October 14th.
Just one newcomer to the top 10 of the latest NJCAA Division 2 volleyball top 25 poll and an unchanged top 10 highlights the week as six Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference schools remain either ranked or receiving votes for a second straight week.
Among the changes to the NJCAA Division 2 volleyball poll is previously number two-ranked Johnson County falling one spot to number three following their matchup with top-ranked and still unbeaten Cowley Community College last Saturday that ended in a 3-0 Tiger victory. Despite the loss, JCCC has been ranked no worse than third this season while spending much of the season as the number two-ranked team behind only Cowley as both teams are joined in the poll by Kansas City Kansas Community College who moved up one spot in this week's poll up to number 16 after winning in four sets at Allen in their only match last week.
No changes for KJCCC schools in the latest NJCAA Division 1 volleyball poll continue to see Barton as the number five ranked team following two road victories last week ahead of a crucial matchup with number eight Colby Community College at home on Wednesday evening. The Cougars are a perfect 10-0 in the KJCCC this season which includes a 3-0 road sweep over the Trojans back on September 23rd as a win by Barton would put BCC two full games clear of CCC in the conference standings along with a head-to-head tiebreaker with just five matches remaining. Along with Barton and Colby, Dodge City is receiving votes for a second straight week following a come-from-behind 3-2 win over Hutchinson and a 3-0 sweep of Cloud County last week.
In addition to Colby heading to Barton to highlight Wednesday evening's schedule across the KJCCC, the week will be highlighted by both Johnson County and Cowley heading to the Pensacola State College Premier Invitational with the Cavaliers taking on a pair of top 10 teams on Thursday as both the Tigers and Johnson County will play four matches over the weekend against teams ranked in this week's Division 2 top 25 poll (number five Heartland Community College, number seven Gulf Coast State College, number 10 Pensacola State College, and number 17 Enterprise State Community College).
