CHARLOTTE, NC – Matchups between nationally ranked teams have led to shakeups for Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference schools and their rankings in the latest NJCAA Division 1 and 2 volleyball polls released on Monday, October 21st.
Among this week’s poll are a pair of KJCCC schools in the NJCAA Division 1 Volleyball top 20 poll along with a trio of conference schools in the NJCAA Division 2 Top 25 poll with four of the five teams ranked this week appearing in the top 10 of their respective polls.
Among the shuffling that took place last week was Johnson County falling from number three down to number eight in the latest poll after playing four matches against nationally ranked foes in Pensacola, Florida last week at the Pensacola Premier Tournament where the Cavaliers picked up a win against host and previously number 10 ranked Pensacola State. Top-ranked Cowley also took part in the tournament, going 4-0 against number seven Gulf Coast State, number six ranked Heartland, number 17 ranked Enterprise State and number 10 ranked Pensacola State as the Tigers did not drop a set all week in five matches to remain number one in this week’s poll. Joining the two teams within this week’s rankings is number 16 Kansas City Kansas Community College who went 3-0 last week with wins over Allen, Southeastern Community College, and East Central College as the Blue Devils did not see any change to their ranking ahead of a busy week this week with a home match against number one Cowley before heading to Fort Dodge, Iowa to take part in a tournament hosted by Iowa Central.
Following a battle of the top two teams in the KJCCC Division 1 standings last Wednesday which resulted in a 3-1 Colby win at Barton, the Trojans have moved up one spot to seventh to take over as the highest-ranked team from the KJCCC in the Division 1 poll. Barton meanwhile fell three spots from fifth down to eighth despite holding the tiebreaker over Colby in the KJCCC Division 1 volleyball standings as both teams are now 11-1 in conference play with four matches remaining for both teams.
Four non-conference matches are on the schedule for Monday within the conference before seeing action pick back up on Wednesday with 11 matches which includes nine matches as number one Cowley will head to number 16 Kansas City Kansas in D2 action while D1 number eight Barton is at Dodge City in a pair of big matchups in terms of the KJCCC standings. 27 additional matches will take place over the course of Friday and Saturday with four KJCCC teams heading to Fort Dodge, Iowa to play in the Iowa Central Tournament while Cowley heads to the Triton College Invitational in Illinois to go along with a handful of KJCCC D1 conference matchups on Saturday.
