CHARLOTTE, NC – The final stretch of the 2024 NJCAA volleyball season is here as evidenced by the second to last NJCAA Division 1 and 2 volleyball rankings of the regular season which features five Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference schools in the polls released on Monday, October 28th.
Minor changes for KJCCC schools in both polls still see four of the five teams from the conference ranked in the top 10 of their respective polls which is once again led by top-ranked Cowley Community College in the NJCAA Division 2 volleyball top 25 poll. The Tigers earned another five wins this past week including four over nationally ranked foes while dropping one set all week. Cowley is now 31-0 this season and has three matches remaining in the regular season as CCC goes for a second straight undefeated regular season after going 41-0 last year as part of their third National Championship in program history.
Also ranked in the latest NJCAA Division 2 top 25 poll is 10th ranked Johnson County as the Cavaliers split a pair of matches last week with a sweep of Labette before falling in four sets at Highland Community College. JCCC finishes their regular season at Neosho on Wednesday night as JCCC can secure the one of the two top seeds in the NJCAA Division 2 Volleyball Plains District Tournament with a win. The biggest mover of the week among KJCCC schools was Kansas City Kansas as the Blue Devils make a three-spot improvement up to 13th, their highest ranking of the season after bouncing back from a home loss to Cowley with wins over previously number five ranked Richard Bland College along with North Iowa Area Community College and Des Moines Area Community College. Holding a 21-6 overall record this season, KCKCC will finish their regular season with a home match against Independence on Monday before heading to Hesston for a 6:30 PM match on Wednesday evening.
Within the NJCAA Division 1 volleyball top 20 poll, Colby remains the highest ranked KJCCC team after remaining seventh in this week’s poll as the Trojans swept Seward County at home and grinded out a five-set win at Dodge City to finish the week 2-0. Colby is at Garden City on Wednesday night before hosting Hutchinson to end the regular season. Barton meanwhile falls one spot down to ninth despite going 2-0 last week with four set wins at Dodge City and at home over Garden City. The final two matches of the regular season for the Cougars will be Wednesday night at home against Hutchinson before heading to Cloud County on Saturday.
Matches are scheduled for four of the next five days highlighted by nine matches across the conference on Wednesday with both D1 and D2 action in full swing to close out the final week of the regular season. Cowley has already clinched at least a share of the KJCCC Division 2 volleyball regular season title and can clinch an outright title with a win over Fort Scott or Hesston this week as seeding is still very much up in the air for the remaining Division 2 schools. In the D1 postseason outlook, the top four seeds and the right to host in the opening round of the postseason tournament have all been secured while no official seeds are set with seven of the nine teams still having two conference matches left in their regular season.
