CHARLOTTE, NC – Three teams ranked in the top five highlight a total of five teams from the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference ranked in the week five NJCAA Division 1 and 2 volleyball polls released on Monday, September 30th.
All five teams ranked this week are unchanged from last week's rankings as the conference sees four of the five teams either hold the same ranking or move up the rankings from last week's poll. Following a change in the week four rankings, the KJCCC once again boasts the top two teams in the NJCAA Division 2 poll with unbeaten Cowley holding down the top spot while seeing Johnson County move up one spot back into the number two rankings which they have held for four of the five weekly polls released this season. The Tigers extended their winning streak to 58 consecutive matches with five wins last week including a 3-0 sweep over NJCAA D3 top-ranked Dallas Eastfield who had their 55-match win streak snapped at the hands of Cowley while retaining their number one ranking. Meanwhile, the Cavaliers played just one match last week and earned a 3-0 home sweep over Fort Scott with three matches scheduled for this week including a conference match at Coffeyville on Wednesday night. Also ranked in the NJCAA Division 2 rankings from the KJCCC is number 18 Kansas City Kansas as the Blue Devils move up one spot after sweeping Coffeyville in their lone match of the week last week ahead of a three-match week this week which includes a matchup with number 19 ranked Northeastern Oklahoma A&M on Friday night.
After sweeping last Monday's battle of top 10 teams, Barton retains its number five ranking as the Cougars went 3-0 last week and did not drop a set in three road matches to run their record to 20-1 overall. Including last season, Barton is now 20-3 in KJCCC matches the past two seasons ahead of two matches this week in conference play. Colby dropped to number eight in the rankings and fell two spots in the latest poll as the Trojans bounced back with home wins over Dodge City and Garden City to improve to 16-2 overall with their only losses this season coming to teams ranked in the top five.
Six matches involving conference schools to start the week on Monday kicks off another busy week in the league as matches will take place five of the next six days highlighted by Friday's KCKCC vs NEO A&M match. Of the 41 matches that are scheduled this week involving conference schools 12 will be matchups between conference schools to kick off the first week of the final month of the regular season.
